The museum has exhibits for both young and old, covering windmills and milling as well as local history and the Scouting movement. Opened in 1976 on the first floor only, the ground floor was still being used as accommodation for the Wimbledon Common Rangers. However a Heritage Lottery Grant enabled the museum to be extended to both floors in 1999.

At least one hour should be allowed to see all the exhibits.

Volunteering with us provides an excellent opportunity to give back to the local community while indulging your passion for history and heritage.  Learn more about the benefits you get when you volunteer with us.

You'll have the chance to meet like-minded individuals, welcome visitors, and make their experience unforgettable. Our Museum offers something for everyone, whether you're interested in wind power or the families who once called the Windmill home. With a commitment of just three hours a month and social events, it's easy to get involved and make a difference.

Life in the day....

We're a friendly bunch and you'll pair up with another volunteer you can expect to:

  • Meet & greet visitors - inspire them with how the mill works and stories of the past

  • Run the desk & shop

  • Become a local expert

  • Be part of fundraising initiatives and events

  • Indulge in Womble-spotting

From as little as 3 hours a month & only during the summer - we provide all training & guidance.

Fancy finding out more?  Drop us a note and we'll get straight back to you or pop into the Windmill and chat to one of the volunteers there.
