The museum is run entirely by volunteers who play a crucial role in welcoming visitors and making their experience enjoyable and memorable. Whether you're interested in wind power or the social history of the families who once lived in the Windmill, there's something for everyone at this unique museum.
Volunteering at the Museum is a great way to contribute to your local community. We receive no external funding, so all the support given to us by volunteers is an essential part of the museum’s success.

Operated entirely by passionate volunteers for the past 30 years, volunteering with the Museum offers a unique opportunity to get involved in the local community and meet like-minded individuals while welcoming visitors to the Windmill and making their experience truly unforgettable.

Volunteering at the museum is a great way to meet new people. There is a real sense of community amongst our trustees and volunteers, and we really value your support and appreciate your feedback.
Volunteers also have the chance to get involved in other aspects of running the museum, such as children's activities and education programs.
Learn new skills & broaden your CV
Volunteering at the museum is also a great way to learn new skills and develop confidence in a new area of expertise (see the image below for a taster of what you could learn). You don't need to know anything about Windmills at all! You may be retired and hoping to try something new or looking to develop new skills to boost your CV and make it standout. You might prefer to help us maintain the Windmill or create new modules for the exhibitions. We welcome everyone!
We are very keen for our volunteers to become enthusiastic guides and to be able to provide tours for our visitors be they local school children, community groups or regular weekend visitors. We will offer comprehensive training. If you’re interested in getting into the world of tourism this might provide you with a good introduction and valuable experience.
